im makeing a diy filter instead of using bio balls or scrubbies could i just use filter floss for the bio part that should have a high surface area right? any suggestions i going the cheapest way..
Floss will work until it clogs up...that's why most use floss as a prefilter...

:iagree:, and how big of a filter are we talking that scrubbies would not be cost effective?

If you want 'the cheapest', pea sized gravel or lava rock will work but they are way down the line from scrubbies, just so you know.

If it's for some feeders (like the thread) then the rock will work.

Bio Bale is used in w/d for bio.

Pea sized gravel used for landscaping, driveways and flat roofs.

HD, Lowes, landscape supply etc.

Just remember to use a pre-filter so you don't have to clean out the other media as often.
