i have a huge bio-load on my 30 gal tank. cheato in the fuge couldnt keep up with the nutrients. i decided to give bio-pellets a try.
i ordered an extra tlf 150 reactor with a via aqua 480 pump (200gph) and 200ml of tlf npx bio-pellets. u must take out the foam and use plastic screens.
it a good idea on an established system to start with smaller amounts of pellets. 200ml will treat 50gal. i started with 50ml. the pump is set for full flow.
when i started about 3 days ago my nitrate was about 7 and phos was .07(little high) . i was running a phosban and carbon in a phosban reactor until i started the pellets.
instead of carbon im using seachem purgien now.
my skimmer since i added the pellets has not produced any skimmate, i guess this common for a few days.
it is a good idea to use a bacteria additive to jump start the pellets, so i added some microbacter7. i will add once a week.
last night i tested parameters again. nitrate fell to 2 but phosphate remained at .07.
i have not really noticed any changes with my corals yet.
i still plan to do 5gal water changes every 2 weeks.
i will do weekly updates.
