So I have a new xp3 set up on my established 110 with an FX5. It's been running about a week. How long should I run it to get it established? I am gonna put it on an empty 60 I have. I got a mating pair of GT's I want to put in it. Thanks!

LOL Does it seem like no body likes you? I'll be your friend.
When starting a new tank and filter I swap 50% of the new bio with 50% of the old/established bio and run it in the establish tank for awhile. I think logically that this helps, as it gives fresh, less clogged ceramic in the old filter and gives the new filter a boost. As far as time....  good question.

Thanks, yea I'm wondering how long, 3-4 weeks maybe

If the new tank doesn't have any waste product being created, the bacteria you spend time trying to establish in the new filter is just going to die off.

Using "old" filters speeds up the process a little bit, but your tank will still need time to fully cycle (4-6 weeks). I'd just treat it like a brand new tank, but sleep a little easier knowing that you've got something in there keeping the water safe.

I put an new XP3 on a currently running tank and it took about 3-4 weeks to develop.

Cool, thats what I was figuring.

:) Mine's at the end of week 3 and my nitrites are down to 0.25 PPM (was over 5) and Ammonia has been 0 since week 2.

agree with fish head but you could even just run the new filter w/ new media but for about a month before you even think of putting it on the new tank.
