Bio Spira does not work

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Rather than bashing the product that you've used before successfully and just bought repeatedly, why don't you contact Marineland at http://www.marineland.com/support and discuss it with them.

Initially, when it was first introduced, bio-spira was supposed to be refrigerated. That's not a requirement now, although I don't think it's supposed to be exposed to extreme heat or cold. If the product were available from a local distributor it could be controlled better. Where do you live? I may know the sales rep.

Listen, you could also call the 800 operator (1-800-555-1212) and get the 800 number for Marineland customer service. Be cool, describe the problem then ask if there's anything they can do to help. Don't demand and don't whine. You'd be surprised at what customer service reps are willing to do for a customer of their products. If they offer and then send you free products, be sure to thank them by phone or e-mail, then post that they did so here.

Yea, what about the LFS owner who told their own faithful customers that Bio Spira works but it did not..The LFS concluded that they had a bad batch of Bio Spira and the reps at marineland were contacted and they just did not reply to the LFS anymore...Dont you think, I will get the same treatment..And I am not even a retailer..

I know there are a lot of postive reveiws about Bio Spira but there is the other side too..And I am not bashing anything..If you spent close to $75.00 for nothing, I think you would be mad also!!

I will request my money back if possilbe since I just have the receipt from my last Bio Spira purchase..But this is a long shot, they should send me another one or three to make up for then I will say Bio Spira stands behind their product..

I don't have a clue as to how they approached Marineland to handle the problem. I don't know anything about stores in your area or even where you live. I DO know that Marineland's reps are intelligent AND willing to discuss problems with their products or the distribution of their products. To be fair, neither you or I know how the dealers you've mentioned handled the product OR the manner it was handled previous to their purchase of the product.

Let me explain it in a different way. If you got a meal at a restaurant that you were unsatisfied with, you'd complain the the waiter, right? A GOOD waiter would go to the floor manager, tell the manager of your displeasure, and let the manager figure out what to do. Typically, the manager would come to you and ask if you'd rather have another dish or plate of an alternative entree. This costs them very little AND could create an even better customer.

Marineland could give you a case of the product at very little cost to them. BUT, if issued an ultimatum by you or your dealer, be inclined to tell you to **** off. So, the manner that you choose to make them aware of a potential problem, allowing them to be benevolent, would probably be in your best interests. I wouldn't expect them to give you cash. Too much paperwork. They could give you product easily, either bio-spira or another product of similar value.

Mentioning MFK could be a mistake. I don't know. But, I wouldn't do it. You might, however, mention that you "talked" to a previous dealer online and were told to contact them directly.

They may have a special relationship with a local dealer in your area, one of the ones you've dealt with or some one else. They could just ask for your name and number and have you go by that store and pick up whatever. OR, just as likely, ask for your address and sent something UPS direct to you.

Don't mention the carbon thing. If it looks like they're going to send you some bio-spira, ask specifically how to use it. Just say,"I want to be sure to do this properly. Tell me how to do this, please."

Let us know how it works out.

As I told you before carbon has nothing to do with it..Here is the marineland saying this about carbon:

"Be sure to shut off any UV sterilizers and remove medication by means of a water change or activated carbon. "

That implies you can use carbon..If you think carbon takes out good bacteria, I dont think so...You mean that you are implying that carbon takes out the good bacteria in your tank? Everyone is pointing the finger at me, saying I am at fault but the bottom line is that I am not..I used Bio Spira many times before with great sucess..And at times, I know for a fact, that Bio Spira does not work 100% of the time..Either it was mishandled during transport or something else..I would be glad that they would send me another one.. But you have to realize, that if you use the Hagen "Cycle" stuff and it does not work, well then you are out of luck..

Refernce these two threads. You have been asked several times now what you are doing. From the start of these threads of yours I have suspected that something that you are doing is wrong. You still have yet to answer the simple question... What exactly are you doing, all things that are being used on the aquarium need to be stated. The fact that you put an established filter onto the aquarium, and all the bb in that filter died, shows that it is not the bio-spira that isn't working necessarily. Something in your tank is killing the bb. Be it chlorine, chloramine, poor temps, etc. As stated in the first link, I have used bio-spira numerous times, with excellent results. However, your results have been sub-par for even a unaided fish cycle, or fishless cycle using plain ammonia. FOR THE LAST TIME, WHAT DO YOU HAVE HOOKED UP TO THE AQUARIUM? WHAT ARE YOUR PARAMETERS? WHAT FISH ARE IN THE TANK? WHAT IS THE TEMP? WHAT IS THE SUBSTRATE, AND DECORATIONS? For the parameters, don't just do ammonia, nitrite nitrate. I want to know more, what is your KH, pH, TDS (if you can measure that), phosphate. Also, do you have enough water movement in the tank? What kind of filters are you using on the tank, and how big is the tank? Without this information we can't help at all, and neither can the marineland rep. You might be doing something wrong, and just not know that it is bad. Post all the information, not just that it doesn't work.

I would have to agree with Wyld. There has to be something else going on with your new tank that could be causing the problem. The bacteria in your established filter shouldn't have died like that unless there's something toxic in your water.

Something is wrong..It has been 4.5 weeks in cycling and my water is after a water change:

Ammonia 1
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0

It has no nitrates, and nitrite after one month..Filters are undergravel filter with powerheads, internal fluval filter and a wisper power filter..Cycling with fishes and not overstocked, inch per gallon rule I go by...Now I should have at least .25 nitrites now then I would be happy but I have ZERO..

I use Amquel and Novaqua to condition the water!

How many gallons? What are the other params? Don't do waterchanges during a cycle. Wait until the cycle is complete. What kind of substrate you are using now?

Yes, I was thinking that also..I would have to have my ammonia spike to very high levels and then nitrite will show..But the bottom line is that Bio Spira is not there..

I looked at my gravel and it was the same gravel that the LFS uses and the LFS has an undergravel filter too..So I dont think it is the problem now..
