Yeah, that's one method. But basically you just have to somehow trickle the tank water through the top of the tower, down through the bio media and through the bottom. Much like your typical sump style wet/dry filter.

Wet/Dry or Trickle systems need the water to be 'trickled' over the balls to work effectively, hence the name "trickle filter". If they are fully submerged in water(as is the case with a canister filter) it doesnt work as well. :(

Yeah but these towers are really big.

I guess what my ultimate goal was with this post is that I'm really impressed with all you guys that keep such large fish with a lot of the off-the-shelf hobby filters. I was just anxious to see if there were any of you out there that used the more larger commercial grade systems. Kinda like the stuff they sell at Aquatic Eco-Systems or even the ones public aquariums use.
