20 minute to half an hour without circulation ( same as the filter bacteria), take them off and put them in a bucket with some tank water if your going to be very long.

I never take the bio wheels off the filter. Then again I have three filters running so ammonia spike will not be an issue.

Let um rip. I personally think bio-wheels are one of the most under rated things we use.
