What do you guys think about putting bio balls inside a fluval?

I know saltwater people have mixed feelings about it being used in sumps, such as its a nitrite trap, and it works great.

And just wondering if its good or bad to use it in a freshwater setup but inside a fluval.

Thanks

I think bioballs suck as a filter media. Go with biomax, Eheim ehfisubstrat, or something with more SF surface area per volume.

bioballs are good for wet/dry. however, with canister filters use biomax. they work very well.:)

You are on my A-list now. LOL

As much as it pains me to be forced to side with the wurm...J/K I agree. Bio balls are ment to be used in an O2 rich W/D system and still provide good water flow. For canisters go with the biomax. You won't be able to get enough bioballs inside the canister to do any real good.

I use scrubbies :D Can fit quite a few of them in there.

yeah thats what i guessed. didnt hurt to ask, its just that i have abunch of left over bioballs and got a new used fluval with nothing but one shelf full of biomax.

for canisters i like the eheim substrat best wet drys i also throw some eheim in there along with my bio balls...
