I tried to find info on this site about the ECOBIO-Block. Not much except it was probably too good to be true. Well it is true. I was given so many conflicting solutions to my ammonia spikes and losing fish. Spent alot of money and time on different fixes. Finally I said "ENOUGH". I ordered the bio block and followed the directions, which are incredibly easy. Soak it for 24 hours, then put in tank. I have a crowded 29 gallon tank. Ammonia was off the charts. Put it in this past May. I am very impatient so I emailed to see if there was something i was doing right or wrong. Surely I had to work at this right? Got answers back same day as asked. Decided to hurry it and put in another one, as my tank was really crowded. And I had a 90 day gaurantee on them, so why not?
Well, I started to get a clear tank, and then I vacuumed. and had white bloom galore! Emailed and they told me not to vac, or just lightly above the gravel, as i was disrupting the bacteria thing. So in other words I was trying too hard. Waited. Not patiently. But one morning a week ago, my tank was clear, then clearer the next day! I waited for something bad to happen and go yucky. It hasn't! My water quality readings are at zero or right above on all of them. I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW WELL IT DOES WORK! My next tank will start out with these things, cuz the process I have gone through with this tank is long, frustrating, and EXPENSIVE! Like alot of novices, I was trying too hard. I HIGHLY recommend this stuff, if you are patient, it will do what it says. My fish look really happy and healthy. I am finally going to email them and let them know that it is a super product and they really need to market it more in the U.S. as lots of people have no idea what it is. But then, it would put a dent in the aquarium treatment business. Try it. It works.:headbang2

Well sorry to disappoint you, but I am a 47 year old houswife sitting in my den with 5 dogs, 4 cats, and a clear fish tank.....sounds like sour grapes to me. I look really crappy right now cuz I just went out and sprayed some weeds and it's really hot here,(mississippi). Sat down at my computer and decided to finally write about the block thingie. Also did some house cleaning, which i hate cuz it makes you ugly, so I think i will go take a shower. I am ready for fall, I have hot weather. M

Sorry, I didn't mean anything by that comment. I was just saying that for such a glowing report on the product it seemed to me that it was possibly a spam type commercial.
I went and read your earlier problem, I think that your main issue was that ether your not filtering enough, or you have had issues with your tap water. I am glad that you have found a product that works for you though. I am sure others are going to be willing to try it out for sure.

Okay.....no problem. It's just that I tried so many different things, with so much conflicting advice, I almost threw in the towel on the whole thing! I spent a ton of money on this stuff and then that stuff. I was ready to pull out my hair, cuz when you don't know how to properly do something, and then lots of people at fish stores, and forums till you different things, and none work, it makes you want to quit the whole thing. I also was really impressed with their cust. service, and it is rare that someone puts extra effort into their job, so I told her if it worked, I would let people know. She even emailed ME to see how it was going .se said she stands behind the product, and now I believe her. I hate it when I request info from a company and I never hear back! Customer service is getting really bad nowadays and I think a good experience should be known.I told her I would, and that is why i did it. Plus I am just so happy to have a clear and healthy tank I could probably kiss her! M

That is pretty awsome! I know what you mean about getting alot of advice and none of it seems to be the same. I generally don't trust LFS (local fish store)employees because they are paid to sell you a product or ten. I am happy you found what you were looking for, because there are so many people out there that try to keep fish, have problems, and end up throwing in the towel just because it becomes to costly and to much of a headache.
How does this stuff work do you know?

The best I can figure out is the bacteria either eats or converts the amm. to nitrite and then nitrate gas.....I haven't had to do a water change in a while. i was doing a 10% one every three days even with this thing, cuz the ammonia dropped, but nitrite was off the charts! not much nitrate. went like this for around a week or so. Then my nitirite dropped, and nitrate shot up. I was panicky, thought my fish would all croak. did like a 20 % when like this. then did like my three day water tests, i use those api vials with the dropper thingie, and everything was close to zero. like one reading above. and my tank was clear. I just held my breath and waited for it to get gunked up or something, so far, everything is the same, my fish are really active. I haven't had any croak off in over two weeks now. I usually lost about one a week. I think the fluctuating levels were stressing them. anyhoo, i found out that japanese fish farms was where they started out. I really didn't think it would work, but i was about to shut it down or else. I even tried the algone thing in the filter. THAT DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! And I had bought an economy pack too! (stupid me). I guess the type of bacteria it is, like some kind of grass bascillus( I know i spelled it wrong I bet) that converts the stuff. I agree with you on the fish store people. I should have known......but I thought they would be honest since I really needed their help. LIve and learn I guess. Thanks for the interest......It's the first time I have been able to answer a question in this forum! WoW! I am a fish keeper too.!

Got an email back from Arline at the bioblock place. She said she was glad it worked, which she knew it would. She even gave me some more tips when I set up a new tank, and they didn't benifit her business in the least! Wow. There really are good, honest businesses out there. I finally found one.
