Biofiltration in canisters

Ive read on this forum that canister filters cannot be depended upon for biofiltration. Is it because theres not enough oxygen

Whoever told you that doesn't know why they're talking about. Like someone stated earlier, canister filters provide a lot of surface area for the beneficial bacteria. Compared to power filters, canisters can hold a lot of media, and there no bypass.
 
yeh whoever told you that is deeply mistaken and should be fed to some sharks. on a lighter note, fbf's are great at bio as are most eheims.
