So I've been reading about biohome and apparently it converts nitrates into gas- but only in slow flow environments.

But the first conversions to nitrite and nitrate need high flow oxygenated water.

How am I supposed to achieve both types of filtration (aerobic and anaerobic) in one sump?

you don't. you cant.
well unless you're an incredible plumber / electrician.
your sump will do the oxygenated part (aerobic bacteria action) ammonia, nitrite to nitrate.

you will need a separate deep sandbed / sand filter (creating an ultimately anoxic environment to support anerobic bacteria action) to do the nitrate to nitrogen gas. * i guess thats the 'biohome'.

dont bother. better to do your water changes.
or
rig up some plants and make a refufium.
or
plumb a drip system.

...and dont overfeed.

I won't need a deep sandbed- where'd you get that idea from?
The biohome converts the nitrates to gas: I just need to find a place for it to so so. I have an extra filter lying around that I could reduce the flow of.
