Hi MFK

Just want to know how long can my biological ceramic rings last? Can i wash them and reuse them? My LFS Told me they can only last 1-2 years i got a feeling its just marketing so ill buy more stuff from him. i don't see why will these ceramic rings not last a lifetime.

Thanks for you help guys!

Hey Mark! Ceramic rings do last a lifetime if you handle them well. No replacement needed.
Just rinse them with aquarium water and place them back in the sump about once a month should be sufficient.

I would also recommand you adding them into laundry bags if you have yet to do so.
Cut off the metal portion and tie it up with a cable tie. Makes removing them so much more easy rather than picking them up by hand.

as long as you rinse them no more then 1 time a year and no less then 1 time every 3 years they are good until the start to break down. i use matrix from seachem it seems to work far better

once a year? wonder how much nitrates has been produced by the gunk trapped between the rings. And the frequency of rinsing won't affect the lifetime of the ceramic significantly (unless you tell me u scrub them with great force).
