does anyone know the square footage comparisons of medias like ehfisubsrtat pro, ceramic rings, bio-balls, etc...? which media has the most area and which would be best for my reef for filtration? its a 20L nano reef BTW and is in need of a new filter so im scoping out the best media to fit a filter to lol

sintered glass, such as ehfi or ehfi pro will have VASTLY higher amounts of surface area than anything else that you can buy on the market. A lot of the "potscrubby" crowd likes to talk about it getting clogged and whatnot but if you have it at the end of your filtration (even after water polishing), you will not have to worry about that.

The smaller surface area bulk media (like scrubbies and bioballs) work for large set ups where it would cost a lot of money to stock with the best media... but for a tank that size you can't go wrong with sintered glass.

For the chart question, there's one that someone posted (maybe chompers or oddball if I remember correctly) a long time ago but I can't find it. The sticky at the top of the forum has an ok comparison... but there is a better one out there.

Try Spiorax!!!

Here's the link: http://www.aquaticeco.com/subcategories/473/Siporax

I read somewhere else that a liter of this stuff equals 35 liters of the regualr ceramic rings

Siporax®

A high-performance, fine-pore biofilter media with unbelievably high surface area (82,000 ft²/ft³) and the ability to perform both nitrification and denitrification under certain conditions. Siporax® works best with well-filtered, clear water (otherwise heterotrophic bacteria will cover the surface). Conveniently packaged in one-liter mesh bags. Made in Germany.

I would like to know, where they come up with these numbers for surface area.
