Thanks for sharing! Bioluminescence fascinates me intensely and it just goes to show that we have so much to still explore. The fact that over 10% of shark species produce light is beyond cool.

It’s definitely the thing that makes me love glofish so much despite the line breeding. Animals that light up are cool...

I never even knew sharks produced light. I thought only the animals in the midnight zone produced light; fish like Angler fish, Gulper Eels, and copepods. Also, did you know a Platypus's belly glow under fluorescent light?

Glofish do not "glow" as these sharks do, they simply are either very bright or have a fantastic glow under UV light. The sharks produce their own light in some fashion.

I did a current event report on this. It was fun, but my school thinks 4 hours per subject is good for friday homeschool (My school is a G.A.T.E school that has homeschool on fridays).
