How much boimax does a Fx5 hold in the bottom tray. I got mine ordered today, will be about a week before its here, so I figured Id go ahead and order or pick up some more Biomax for the lower basket so I have it when it arrives.
thanks

I have a bunch of bioballs around here, should I use those or stick with the Fluval Biomax for the fx5..

I too am curious about the bioballs, as i have many too..but i ordered biomax with mine.. i think it was 17 oz, but i have a feeling ill need more.. (btw i just ordered mine yesterday as well)

Yay I learnt from first hand experience on the terrible noise those bioballs would cause if placed in the top basket. They would float and constantly knock against the lid of the canister.

I couldn't sleep for 2 nights until i relocated them to the middle basket

well I got 500grams of biomax with the filter. Just didnt know if that was going to be enough. I was thinking of using biomax in the bottom, and bioballs in the middle and carbon in the top. But have not decided. Money is not the problem, even though I always ship for a good deal... But rather get it rt the first time.
So 500g x 2 will fill the bottom basket,,, thanks
I have about 50 1.5" bioballs, so I know I have plenty of those.. But want to make sure I have enough biomax ordered and here when the filter gets here..

depends on the bioload its like this lots of poop u need lots of biomax the bio balls are useles in fx5 use them in sunp /wet dry. i use 2 boxes per tray 6 boxes total.

Why - surface area for bacteria to grow on no matter what its made of is still surface area right?

Plus bio-balls allow better flow

i used two boxes of biomax on the bottom tray, and 2 boxes on the mid tray and 2 boxes of pre filter on the top tray.........
