anyone herd that fluval was discontinueing this media ...

well a few day's ago I was looking for more for a new tank for feeder's and no one in my area had it . I was like :WTF: so I asked a guy (he own's fins-n-thing's in danbury conn.) if he had it , he did only one box  , I asked I he would get more soon he told me they tryed place and order through the company that deal's with fluval and then told him they were no longer marketing it and there is no replacement as of yet . I trust this man when he recomend's or give's advice , he is no newbie (58 yr's old and been houseing fish since the early 70's). he could have been miss informed but I had to ask here ...

I just orderd a box of biomax at bigals. Never heard that they gonna discontinue it.

empty your fluval and run bioballs?

I thought bioballs is best use when their dry? I mean, when water's just running on it.

one to two basket's full of 1/2'' or 1'' ?? size , as is I run no carbon :grinno: . :grinyes: biomax, prefilter, bonded filter pad(cut to fit) , ammonia remover ... :D

I ran straight bioballs in a fluval on my 35 corner with africans and never had a problem. Bioballs are great for wet drys due to the surface area for air and water to mix to all the bacteria grow really well. Well when it' submerged, you still have all that surface area that the bio balls provide, however the density of the bacteria ends up going down due to oxygen levels dropping from the wet dry. But it works. Or you could use coral. There's plenty of surface area for bacteria to grow on large coral substrate. All you're really doing is providing a place for benificial bacteria to cultivate. The fluval stuff was really porous that's why it worked well and it was inert as far as changing the chemistry of your water. if you've got south americans i wouldn't put coral in your filter. Just a thought though

That is true, that's why i got a lot of biomax in all of my fluvals. I don't use carbon, ammonia remover or prefiltermedias. Just the foams and biomax. I have some lava rock inside my tanks and yes some corals too. But in the main tank, Lotsa bioballs and lava rocks in the sump:D
