I am really interested about setting up a biotope. Can you guys please post pics of your biotopes and state what area it is and what fish are in it. I need some ideas please. Thank You guys,

p.s. if this is in the wrong forum feel free to move it.

220 Gal Lake Tanganyika Biotope
9 Moba Frontosa

I might put some other fish if I move them to a larger tank, but for now they are alone and can have their peace to (not) breed. I like N. leleupi which also come from Zaire area of the lake, but not likely as deep as one might find the Moba Frontosa. Might add adult A. calvus and A. compressiceps.

Anyways, this is just to give you some ideas...

That's a very nice looking tank Will - I'm impressed. Frontosa are one of the few african's that have always piqued my interest
I'm sure that many more species would alsointerest you, if you could get passed all the peacock variants that malawi finatics go on about. :) So many similar species become popular, that others become forgoteen about. What is so interesting about the fish from these lakes is how they interact as a group. I reccomend that you watch the video "Jewels of the Rift". You can download it as a torrent or view it on YouTube.

That's awesome. Did you make those rocks?
The rock is called Kingston Weathered Rock. It's large and smooth with fissures throughout. Very heavy and very solid. Here is a closeup of a piece of this type of rock.

Thats a really pretty tank its relaxing just looking at the picture of it.
I'm quite enjoying looking at it.

Also, the Aquatic Gardeners Association (AGA) holds an Aquascaping contest. While this is normally the best place to see Japanese and Dutch style aquascapes in their most perfected form, there is also an entry section for Biotopes. I'll be entering this tank in the 2008 contest, though I don't expect much when I compare it to the previous contest entries. Here is a link.

That is why i want a biotope. It is interesting to see how fish from the same area interact together.

I've seen Jewels Of The Rift, as well as spent countless hours talking about Africans with Pam Chin - not sure if you know who that is but she's infamous in the cichlid world :)

I've kept Tanganyikan's in the past, the only hurtle I have with them is that they are VERY slow to mature.

Yes I know who she is. Shes also infamous in the super cheezy aquarium ornament world too, Hahah.

Being WC I don't know the ages of my Frontosa, but the 12" female is likely well over a decade, maybe closer to two. They do grow slow, but multiple feedings per day of a quality food will ensure good growth.
