Biowheels

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the penguins have that issue, try cleaning everything out (not the biowheels) and add some sponges at the front (dollar store sponges) to make the water flow faster. Or just get some Emp 400s and you will never have to worry about it

IME, the answer is "yes". It is normal. My biowheel got to the point where I would constantly have to mess with it to get it to turn. Enough was enough after a while. I no longer use it (or that HOB).

well the wheels are still spinning slowly, so you jsut get a sponge and put it over the intake? how wil lthat make it flow better? and how do you make it stick there? the inside of my filter is clean besides my wheels obviously... Also how often do you guys replace cartridges?

I'm not sure what the sponges do. I would not worry about them. As far as the cartridges, use the ones you have until they are falling apart, then buy some bonded blue filter pad,and use that instead. Will save you a bunch of money in the long run. You can save the frame from the cartridges you have to put in front of the pad,or just cut the pad a bit bigger than the filter box and it will stay put.
Carbon is not necessary,IMO. But if you want to use it,you can buy media baskets.

The basket linked is for Emperors, but you can get them for Penguins too.
