Since I moved the clown loaches and senegal birchirs to the sand substrate they haven't been eating. The senegals will eat ghost shrimp but no longer eat the pellets, they won't even eat krill and they went nuts for it in the other tank.. They sniff them and then go in search of food. The clowns might eat some but I keep seeing food on the floor an hour after I feed them and suck it out. I'm not overfeeding and still end up with some on the floor.

The nitrites have dropped to barely detectable levels but still not 0, I have been doing daily waterchanges to keep them low. They never got above .25. The tank was supposed to be an instant cycle, moved a filter over from another tank.

Its been a week, the birchirs look okay but the clowns look stressed. The color is very faded and they hide all day. I figure its the daily waterchanges coupled with the move. When they do come out when the lights are out they swim together a lot.

I'm going to try frozen beef heart tomorrow.

They will probably return to normal behavior soon...probably just stessed.

So all you changed is the substrate?
whats your ph?
and has it changed from what it was?

PH is 6.8 same as it always is. But for a time because of the tank not instantly cycling I was doing 50% waterchanges. My PH out of the tap is 6 at best and rises to 6.8 after degassing. Cutting down to 25% waterchanges have helped with the yoyo effect because it still stays at 6.8.When i was doing 50% I'd notice the Ph dropped down to 6.4.

Am is 0
NI is .1? has been .25 but the waterchanges have lowered it (test shows a very lightly tinted purple)
NA 7

might be your parameters are still off coz your still cycling tank, i think new tank syndrome, need to be patient let them settle for awhile

Yeah definitely just stress...they'll come around.

what are the sizes of the bichirs and clowns?

Thanks guys, I adjusted the spraybar flow down some and they are more active and eating.

The clowns are 4 and 3 inches and the birchirs are 6 and maybe 4.5 inches.
