I have been trying to give my macaw baths since I have gotten her with a squirt bottle and she absolutely despises it. She screams and runs to the other side of her cage and now she starts to run just at the sight of the bottle. So I really hate doing this but she does need it. I was thinking about putting her in the shower and seeing how she handels this but isnt chlorine harmful for to birds? Or would it be fine to do this and not be worried about it?

try offering her a dish of water big enough to bathe in, then start vacuming near her cage, sometimes it works, i dont know why but it does

Its to cold for you to do that now:eek: You risk your bird catching a respiratory infection! You should wait for summer!

even if the bird is indoors?

If you were to put the bird in the shower .. it should be done gradual... and maybe at the same time you would be taking a shower.. usually they sit on perch that attaches to shower wall.. i would just let her get use to the shower running first few times and then maybe try a very fine mist..after she looks comfortable.. but doing it together will promote their confidence. i do not get my birds soaking wet during winter.. but just use a fine bird bath spray.. to keep down dander and make the quills feel better.. i buy mine at pet store called skin conditioner bird bath with aloe vera ..

I put my amazon in the shower. He prefers that to any squirt bottle. A lot of people will use a squirt bottle to discipline a bad bird. I have a shower with a real fine mist and I put him in at the back part of the shower where there is no water and let him walk up to the water. When he is done he walks back out of the water and waits for me to turn off the shower.

I used the bird bath spray on him a couple if times and he hated it. I even tried to warm it up a bit and still he was lounging at me and screaming.

Birds need baths even in the winter because with the heat on it drys out their skin just like it does to us. The key is put them in a draft free area of the house and I kick up the heat a little to make sure he is warm while he drys off.

Well thank you everyone for all of the advice. I do make sure when she is wet she gets dried off quickly so she never has to stay wet. I will try the conditioner and see if that would help. If not I will the try the shower and let her get used to it. But there are no worries with the cold I make sure she stays nice and warm and never wet for too long. Thank you again for the help.
