I got this maneguense in a group of fish I bought. She has a messed up upper lip. Pics aren't the best but I would like some input about the upper lip. She has paired up with a male. If its a genetic defect I don't want to raise they fry, but if its battle damage I wouldn't mind raising some fry. It's a good looking fish other than the lip.

id say its from birth... thers a juvi GT with onli 1 pectoral fin from a birth defect lol

It''s really hard to tell. I'd say there looks to be some scar tissue in that area but just to play it safe I'd be on the side of defect.
The chances that this defect will be passed on to even a small percent of the hundreds of fry she can produce are minimal at best but I'm no geneticist. From my own personal experience, I have had a convict that had clamped fins that was producing feeders for me and the fry all looked normal at an inch.

Shame too, great colors on that girl.

Can she open her mouth? I suspect she has a disease called ducklips. Highly contagious disease. I suggest quarantining her and start treating with Macryn1 and 2.

"Duck lips" is really contagious.

Funny stuff aside, I hope your jag doesn't have that.
That thread was really informative, thanks for linking that thread cacichlids.
