I recently sold my red tail cat because he was starting to eat my smaller fish. My satanoperca jurapari bares the battle wounds of an encounter with the catfish. He seems to have been biten by the shoulder, behind the eye. The RTC was probably having a hard time swallowing him so it let go. However, now my jurapari is scarred and I am not sure if he will heal. In addition, he seems to have developed some types of holes in the head (fungus?). I was unsure of weather he was ok or if he would be permanently scarred. Either way I am going to keep him but if it has fungus I would attempt to heal him in my quarantine tank. What does it look like to you?

No offense intended but HITH is largely caused by poor water quality. There is a lot of poop on that sand it looks like. Weather wound or HITH start with large regular (50% every 4 days) vacuum and water change. Water has to be pristine..

Good luck

P.S. I have also heard the satanoperca is susceptible to HITH.

He seemed fine until he got bitten. But seems unhealthy now. I guess I will start with regular water changes. It has been hard to scoop up the poop because my siphon has seemed to loose suction power and is very gentle now.

So i have been doing regular weekly water changes (well two this week). I've read something about the diet or lack of minerals in the water can have a hand in causing HITH disease. Any one have any dietary or supplementary recommendations?
