I have some Red Bellied Piranha which I believe have been in a fight.

Two have a chunk missing nearer to the upper fin area.

The missing chunk is about the bite size from a 7 cm fish.

I feed my Red Bellies every other day with frozen Lanch fish.

Please advise if I need to take any action i.e. medicate the tank to avoid any infection, etc.

I am new to Red Bellied Piranha so all your advise would be great.

Cheers.

I have 2 redbellies too (I started out wit 6 or 7, sold a couple, 2 were eaten, and now I only have the two). I heard from the guy at the LFS who sold them to me that it's completely normal. It may not be good if theyre eating each other, that probably means your not feeding them well, but its fine if they take nips at each other. The injuries will just grow back.

the bites don't seem too bad, I have seen worse (I had mine with part of stomach bitten out and healed within 2 weeks without any med or salt.)and heal up completely without any additional med or salt, but you need to keep water parameters top notch.
as a precaution you can dose the tank with med (melafix/pimafix) or just dose with salt (click here for more detail info) and increase the temperature to 82F (~28°C).
at 7cm you should feed them more frequent like 2-3 times a day instead of one feeding every other day. You can reduce the feeding frequency as they get bigger, but not at 7cm.
good luck with them.

At the very least one good meal a day till they're grown. They might be wanting or needing variety also.

These things are tough just keep water pristine and it will be healed in no time.

Mega thread bump

Considering it's six months later im going to assume they healed up fine and the piranhas are doing well :).

i remember my first bite, it was a lil scary but once you get the first one out of the way you realize they have the healing power of wolverine
