I am upgrading from my 40 high to a 40 long so it will have more swimming space horizontal wise when swimming.this tank is temporalily until my pond is set up in the summer. In want to use sand as a subtrate. When i first add the sand do i add water first or sand?also how long will the water take to clear up.For filtration i am using a ac 200 and a magnum 350 pro.what do u guys think.

Rinse your sand well, I would put the sand in first but it shouldn't matter. See how long your tank taakes to clear up there is no way to know. Let's see some pics of that pond I love pond pics:popcorn:

i put in the sand first but thats just me it doesnt matter as long as you clean the sand well i use a garden hose on jet setting it works the best in my opinion

Is there anything else like should i get a powerhead or anything.

40 seems pretty small for a buttikoferi doesn't it?

yea buttis get really big. Somthing on the lines of a 100 would be better. Instead of getting a 40 long save and get somthing in the 100-150 range

I think he said the tank was temporary until he gets a pond up and running. Hope you will have it sooner than summer though as that butti will grow quick...

exactly it is a temporaliy tank.I just want something with good space for it to move around and stay comfortable till spring exactually.

you def said you already have a pond going. what happened to it? !exactually! lol thats a great word

How big is this butti? Got any pics?
