i was at the lfs looking for a pleco. i saw one i liked that was black with bright green spots on it. it was labled phantom something or other. what kind of plecos look like this? it looked a lot like a blue spot pleco pictuerd below but it was black and the spots were green. it cost about 60$ and was maybe 5-6" long

that is a blue phantom, or blue spot, or whatever common name you like. they are all hemiancistrus sp. L128. the difference in colours with these loricariids is kind of unknown but depending on their localities, there is differences in their colouring, ranging from olive black, blue, blue black, with spots green, blue, white or yellow etc. they also range in the size of their spots and frequency and where on the fish they appear. could be down to their food, or the conditions they live in or both. there is found to be a general trend that the more northern the species if found, the blacker/darker the fish is. i think they are all good looking, here are some examples of the range of colours to add to your picture (a nice looking male)...

cant think of another pleco that could be considered to have green spots and black body right now...

no probs. oops you already worked it out, sorry, my second post was late lol.
just so you know the site mentioned in your picture, exoticfinds.net/plecos has a good selection, and their L128s are cheaper than your quoted price. ive heard good things from other US people on this site. got a good stock too. just make sure you know what youre buying, they are not always advertised with correct IDs, but they've got so pics, so generally not a prob.

there are a lot of black and white plecos lol.

ya iv been thinking of ordering from exotic finds for a while now. and that was my main problem with the black and white pleco was that its hard to narrow down if you cant even realy see it. im hoping to get a new tank soon so ill have to try exotic finds
