Ok... i have had a silver aro for almost a year now... got him at 5 inch or so and is now around 22 to 24 inch... i have a 600 gallon that will be running for him in a month or less... the question i have is that i also am getting 2 black aros 10 to 11 inch tomorrow... at what size would you guys suggest putting them together in the 600? i was thinking of letting the blacks get to around 18 inch or so which would mean the silver will probably be 25 to 27 inch might be bigger.. have heard that at 24 they slow way down.. so i'm hoping by the time they are 18 he won't be over 27... he has slow way down on his growth... he doesn't mess with any other tank mates in the tank at the moment... the 600 is 8 ft by 4 ft by 2.5... any info is welcome as this will be my first time trying a aro community... thanks

I'd say to wait another 4-6 months before putting them together, by then the blacks will have almost caught up to the silver. Growth definitely slows after their first year.

i was planning on waiting 6 months or so... but i don't think they we be the same size... as the silver is already 10 inch bigger at the moment... i was just thinking if the blacks get to 18 inch or so and the silver 26 or so would that be ok... or would i be risking to much? just trying to get a feel for how close everyone thinks they need to be in size? i was thinking if the silver is 26 to 27 the black would need to be more like 20... just get them with in 6 or so inch... but i could be wrong... anyone else?

My two 29" silvers and 26" black didn't bother the 16" black aro I added. 450 gallon 8x3x2.5' tank

I was hoping you would chime in Derick... I like your setup... so let the black grow up to maybe 16 to 18 and I guess i'll give it a shot them... picking up the blacks tomorrow

um sorry but this is probably going to fail. two blacks in one tank for year or so probably wont work then even if it does mixing two co-inhabiting SA aros with one solo SA aro is pretty much doomed to fail then, the co-inhabitants will maybe take offence but the solo aro is 100% going to take offence to the intrusion even i an new tank on equal grounds he will probs not like it one bit. ya best bet for that combo at this stage is either get one black and have one tank for ya silver n one for your black, or get 6+ SA's any color n grow them up from young not worrying about fin nips n odd bits of scale damage.

Brains tank is pretty good sized, his aro's are mature and still a great element of luck involved in that combo and sure he had a few nervous hrs when he first introduced them.

im not saying it is doomed to fail just probably wont work...

For one man you say his tank is good size? Mine is even bigger.. his is 8 by 3 by 2.5 and mine is 8 by 4 by 2.5... he is not the only other one I have seen this combo... and I know every fish is different and may not work... but you saying his tank is good size and mine is bigger doesn't make sense... I didn't ask if it would work... I asked when would be the best size to try... I appreciate the input but the question wasn't if it would work but at what size... and don't say someone has a big tank and that is one part for it to work when the one you are telling won't has an even bigger... I know there are risked but don't jump in and it's doomed... I have been told this about other combos and i'm proving them wrong right now with another combo I have

ok i didnt read ya tank size. did post that at like 6am tho and safest point to try is over 24" fully mature. If i think some thing is a bad idea then i willt to say so mate. i will never tell anyone to crack on with a aro com and just wish them goodl uck people need to know it probably wont work. if it does fair play but as standards go its very unlikely.

i know it is a risk... just thought it was funny how you said he has a big tank.. yet mine is bigger... didn't really make sense to me at all... but i didn't ask if it was going to be hard... i asked at what size would it be better to try it... from someone that has done is before... and your first post had nothing to do with the question on hand...
