Would anyone advise against this union? I'm getting a 220g and my silver is only about 5" so I was thinking of getting a black about the same size and see what happens.

I have heard and seen it work before. I suggest you try 3, 2 black or 2 silver and 1 of either. 2 make it more territorial and 3 is evenly odd out the arow. Either way it should work.

I tried to put a 15" silver and a 11" black together, it lasted about 3 hours. The silver was much to aggressive for the smaller black. I hope to try again in a couple years, my plans are for my 2 silvers and black to all share a 8' x 4' x 30" tank.

Also silvers grow much quicker then blacks, so in time the silver could be much larger then the black and this could cause problems, especially once the 220g starts to become too small.

black should be bigger ;)

Here is mine :) My Black 12-14" Kicked the crap out of My silver for 2 weeks and would have killed the silver had i not figured out the magic key of less aggression...
My silver was 22" when introduced to the tank with the black being 12-14"

The silver is healed up nicely don't you think :)
