Black aquarium sand question

I put 300 pounds of black aquarium sand in my 250 gallon tank. Now I have heard about gas pockets. Do I need to stir or sift the sand every so often or is this a bad idea. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

i used an aquarium gravel rack when i had sand i just gently probed the sand and also trumpet snails are good for stirring up sand but they will multiply so they need to kept in check also they create a lot of waste
