Here.
Hello everyone,

My black aro's body is super dark - almost as dark as his fins. He is 7-8" long right now. I'm not sure why this is happening or if this is normal. A possible reason I am speculating is that the background and substrate are both black. Maybe he's trying to blend in or it is just the reflection. I highly doubt the latter though. I get close up to him and he is one dark aro. As if he was sun bathing all day and then gets into a tanning bed at night.....:irked:

Any ideas? The tips of his fins are still deep orange. Otherwise, he is pretty normal. Possibly melanic (opposite of albino) hehe I highly doubt it tho.

(Pictures will come later when I get home)

Thanks for the most obvious answer. I've seen and dealt with black arowanas in the past, and none are as dark in coloration on the body - not just the fins.

This is why I am curious.

thats normal as they get bigger they get grayish color and blueish fin and lose the black

Alright, I guess the general consensus is that he will grow out of it. I'll post a picture later for a more definitive response/reaction.

okay looking forward too the pictures

Hmmm...interesting. By that size, I'd assume that it would be in it's "ugly duckling" phase. Pics would help.:D
