anything i need to know besides keeping a tight lid? im picking one up tomorrow. are they hardy? skittish? any info or articles on blacks would be much appreciated.

My black is much more timid then my silvers, she doesn't seem as jumpy though and when she is spooked she seems much more in control of her outbursts. Basically all the same rules and recommendations that go for silvers still apply.

How big is the black your getting, if on the smaller side I would definetly drip acclimate, couldn't hurt for a larger one either.

I have had Silvers, Jars, and now 2 blacks and I think that the black is by far the most calm. Even when he does spook it seems like he is still under control where the other 2 types would just go nuts...I will never own another aro other then blacks unless they legalize asians...

thanks for the replies. hes about 7 or 8 inches and the guy said he is a nice dark blue. how big do they get compared to silvers? will they hit 3 foot? whats the groth rate compared to silvers?

They are known to get as big as silvers. There growth rate is slower though, mine hass only grown less then 4" since I got her in March at 11". Were as one of my silvers has grown 10" in the same amount of time, from 14-24". There is a member here who had a black reach 30" at 4 years old, so there is a possblity for fast growth.

RIP 30" Black

i just got the new guy, how does he look? im glad he wont get drop eye. hes about 6 or 7 inches. wow that 30'' was sweet! hope mine gets that big.

keep him on pellets, best food for maximum potential in growth and health.
