I was told somewhere on mfk that black aros come into season in september...I called a fish store (not all that local) and they said that they are in season in early summer...

Which one is the truth and for that matter, is either true? When is the best time to purchase a black aro?

Not to sure if they are seasonal but it wouldn't suprise me if they are. Even if they are, I still haven't seen any in a LFS for a couple years.

So IMO the best time to buy one is when you find one.

Rare even here in south east asia. Heard they are tough to keep. Unique fish. :)

I dunno...I heard they're just about as tough to keep as a silver...just need them to be a little larger than a silver to be the same hardiness. But once reached, they're good to go...(and of course all my knowledge is hearsay at this point...)

$40-100 depending on size? that would be an amazing steal i think to find a black at either price. look more for $200-300

Wow...I dunno then. That's the price the guy quoted me @ this morning. Unfortunately, he also said that I'd have to wait for the black aro season...

I'm trying to get a black and a silver at the same time and at roughly the same size. This way they grow up together and I'll have less chance of them fighting.

Next step is figuring out when black aros are primarily available...

Blacks are in season come more around october-november. They are also in season in the summer, but that is where they are from. In SA start of summer is the start of winter up in the north. I think you will still have problems with fighting amoungst the two arowanas. It would be more advisable to either have one HUGE tank for several, or just get one aro.
