Here's the deal, I have one baby black arowana about 5" in a 55 gal, with one semi-large piece of driftwood, the tank's temp is set to around 84-86 degrees f.

I was wondering if it would be ok to add a few more baby blacks around the same size, to up the chances of them living longer, so I can upgrade to a 240 gal tank....

I only get to have one if the black or blacks can grow a little bigger to make it worthwhile to have that large of a tank..

Thanks...

Also, had 5 before, who all died... so it's up in the air whether or not I will be getting more blacks.. thanks

:)

Adding more can lower survival rate. Aro's don't like each other and the extra competition and fighting can be too much for baby's. A 240 won't look that empty with 1 adult aro and a few other species. Aro's should be kept alone for the first bit of their life anyways.

Why are you justifying that getting more would be a reason to get a 240? So are you saying it's okay to keep a 2 foot fish in a 15" wide aquarium?

Sorry I was wrong it's a 270 gal. 72 x 36 x 24 tank. But it's not that per say. Since the mortality rate of the blacks is so low, I just wanted to have a better chance of survival since I will be able to aquire more if I wanted it.

So I just wanted to know if it would be wise to stick more blacks with the single black in hopes of a higher rate of survival. Or should I just chance it with the one that I have.

72" tank is too short for multiple adult black arowana.

Ok but that still doesn't answer my question... Is it ok for now to get more just in case? Or do you think they will live to grow to adulthood?

Just stick with the one you have, if you are taking care of it properly there's no reason it should die (there are some that just have problems adjusting but it's not that common) Baby's Black arowana are sensitive to water conditions but having multiple wouldn't really help with that, if the water quality is poor they'd likely all die.

Chances of raising multiple juvies together is very slim. So unless you have enough tanks to raise them separate if needed, your best bet is to just stick with one.

ok, thanks for the advice, at least it will save me some money, banking on the lone black. He's actually the one that's been doing the best since we got the blacks in the first place. It's just that people that I've spoken to before said you should either have 1 or 5... So i tried 5, and that didn't work I guess, so I'll take everyone's advice and stick with the one.

Thanks! I'll let the guy know that I guess I won't be buying another one..

Even though I'm kinda cuz it's nice to look at multiple baby arowanas together.
:) thanks everyone..

and how big is a big enough tank for multiple arowanas?
