i have owned arowanas in the past, i have an rtg.
but i have never had a black aro, and i have never had an aro so small.

this black aro is 12cm at most.

nice colours, when i picked it up from the shop, it was only 2 days at the store - and before i picked it up, i wanted to see if it was eating, and it ate pellets right inf ront of my eyes, 2 days after intro in the lfs.

after taking it home, last night - its a shy fella! (his name is bobo) :D my gf picked the name lol

anyways, i find it stays in the corners, this is typical of aro nervousness i know, but all aros i have ever had was always 15 cms plus when i got it.

i bought some floating plants for cover, turned off lights to sooth it.
i also put some pellets in the tank, whcih it didnt go for when i was watching but i found hours later chewed up on the ground, same pellets as the lfs fed, hikari aro sticks.

this morning, i put some more in, and it went for 3 pieces when i hid around the corner and turned the lights off, ate a bit of the other after chewing and spat out the other two. but stil nervous when i sit in front of the tank, it hides on the corners or just lays on the ground.

i put floating plants today, so it has extra cover.

any tips on black aros? as i said, i knwo they are the more shy aro, so experienced tips would be good!:D

OR, am i just being impatient and over reacting lol

give him some time to settle in. once that is achieved he will most likely start accepting food...

Arowana that size can be easily overcome by other fish equal or shorter in length. I would choose your tank mates cautiously.

Good luck with your new little guy.

I think it just need time to get use to the tank. my didn't eat much for almost a week when I first got it at around 2.5" and now it eats like a pig

im just abit apprehensive lol
silvers, rtg and red and especially jar was so quick to settle in, with in days lol

i know im being impatient but cant help it
they are so rare here in New zealand and i dont wanna lose him.

i covered tank with a towel, i peek inside and its swimming around.
just scared i think

imo they are all the same ... err speaking for everything except afro (seeing that i never had this ones).

the care is the same as for the others. it is normal that he is shy on the first day... how long that depends on each fish

nothing to worry about there mate - errr pix are in order me thinks ^^
