So I've read that as black arowana are wild caught larger specimens tend to be shy eaters. My local lfs who either have or can order black aros have quoted me $285 for a 7-10 inch fish. A couple of spots on the east coast have baby aros for 45-90 bucks but shipping to me in california is like $100+ .

What would you guys recommend considering I'd problably save like $100 getting a baby arowana but cross country trip might be alot of stress. Also is there any truth to the larger fish being shy eaters? Any input is appreciated guys thanks again.

$285 is a bit high, I have seen that size for $250. However have you ever think of small Leichardti aro? It's not in season now but you can get 4-5" for $250-$275 and they grow pretty fast.
