I saw a black arowana at a LFS yesterday. At least it was labelled a black arowana.

What I found unusual though was that the tips of all it's fins were red. Which I thought was unusual. It was next to silver, red-asians, and jardini's so. I know it wasn't any of those. Also, it was approximately 5-6'' long.

Is it normal for the fin tips to be red? Is this something that happens just during it's juvenille phase? or what fish was I looking at?

Generally are orange can be yellow, never seen red myself. Couldve just been the lighting also.

They may be a little orange looking in the juvinile stage but the overall body is going to be way darker than a silver. It should be easy to distinguish the two especially if there are silvers in the store too. Just do a thread search on black aros there are tons of pics

The fin outline color should be orange, if the color looks red it's probably just lighting. If you see a base blue color in the fins, it's a black.

The edges of my black aro fins are red not orange or yellow

What are they? This is mine when it was in it's juvi stage:

EDIT: I misread your post. I thought you said it's not red, orange or yellow. I've never seen a red one. could you post a pic?

In your moving day thread they look like typical black aros, with typical orange fins.

i have nothing further to contribute to the thread as it has been answered already, but if you didn't buy one already and could house one do it...i miss mine and can't wait to give it another go...
