so I know substrate doesn’t matter so much to arowanas. But it matters to me. HOWEVER. Noodle is going into his next tank size up. (125 gallon. Obviously this isn’t his forever tank, pls don’t yell at me)
So I need a lot of substrate. I’d like black, I’m putting live plants in, and I’d like it to be cheap.
Any ideas?

Black diamond blasting sand (it's basically coal slag), $8 per 50lb at Tractor Supply Co. not sure if you have em in florida.

I use the 20/40 grit in my planted tank (about 3 years across various tanks), no ill effects on my fish.

Advice: rinse this stuff in a bucket. 1 out of 3 of my bags had dust, other 2 were fine. might depend on where they're sourced though.

Surprisingly enough, we do have them here. Probably because we’re basically Georgia, or because every teenage girl wants to pretend they’re country just because we’re technically “the south”

Still can’t figure out why. But it’s a large contributing factor to why I hated high school. And people here in general.
Which is why I have fish. They’re the only ones that still like me and don’t talk. Lol. But alright. I’ve rambled enough. Thank you!
