I have tried several times to raise a black arowana and they keep dying. Had my latest one in his own tank weekly water changes eating Hikari food sticks. Woke up this morning and was dead. I want an arowana for my 220 gallon tank. I wanted a black arowana because I was told they don’t get as big as Silver albino arowanas. Is that true? Would a silver arowana get too big for my 220 gallon? Or should I try a black arowana again? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for your input!

Yes I have thought about it. I’m not a rookie when it comes to keeping fish. Been keeping fish a long time. All water parameters were fine. 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrites. Never got over 10 PPM Nitrates. More than enough biological filtration. It did not die due to water parameters I can promise you that.
It is true buy not by much. Blacks are smaller generally by about 6" as adults. I doubt that's the reason anyone buys a black over a silver though. The primary reason is that unscrupulous Asian breeders have been breeding trash silvers for decades and for reasons I'll never understand the US importers continue to support their puppy mill approach. Nearly every silver you encounter will have droop eye and the less analytical keepers will tell you something about silvers getting that because they're looking down or some other nonsense. None of it is true.
Silver Arowana have eye deformities because US importers continue to buy Asian trash breeder's product.
You buy a Black Arowana because the Asian breeders haven't made a mess of their genetics yet. I have owned and been around many Arowana and have yet to see a Black w/ eye issues. Silvers though? I expect it and a Silver w/out an eye deformity is a genuine anomaly.
To buy a Silver Arowana is to support shameful breeding practices.
Now... as to premature death. You're definitely doing something wrong. They're delicate when they're young but not that delicate.
