a black arowana would certainly never use a piece of driftwood on teh ground.
if so its highly stressed
but do put driftwood, i feel it makes htem feel more natural, also if you have pleco, other fish in there - it would help make those feel secure
black aros are generally shy fish - more shy than any other arowanas i have ever known. Wood will not really improve its life.

My jardini loves weaving in an out of the big piece of drift wood in my tank it goes all the way out of the water. Hes never freaked or jumped or anything though. I think having a big piece ( as in one that goes to the surface) would probably be risky with a skitish fish.
