Hey guys, I was thinking about getting a black arowana for sometime now, but was not sure about putting down 200 plus dollars on it if it was the same fish as a silver(15 dollars). I really do want to get it, but at the same time I'm talking myself out of it also. What do you guys think?

I think you need to do more research, this will help you be secure in your decision. IMO if you can't tell the difference between the two, you shouldn't be buying either of them.

they really are different... the price of black will be so much higher most likely is because instead of being farm breed... the black arowana are WC-wild caught...
when they are younger(really young) the colour of black is really striking!!! black with line of white or light yellow running lateral of their body... hope this helps...

I agree with other members. Do some research on both so you can see the pros and cons. I prefer the Black because they are more resistant to drop eye.

Been doing the comparative research on black vs silver for a long time(over a year) and while it appears that they are apparently different as juevies when they grow to adult size they do appear more similar (atleast in photos). I haven't ever kept a arrow so I'd keep a silver first if you haven't so you can appreciate the difference otherwise it will likely be money wasted.

will only be money wasted if the black dies....otherwise, they are just as beautiful as silvers. blacks are more fragile & dont get as big, but the array of colors they display are worth the extra 200 bux IMO.

I only go with Blacks personally. They seem to be calmer, no drop eye, and they don't get as big. Mine is still outgrowing my 450! This is a big fish! As far as looks, I use to think they look the same but now I can pick out a black in a second after keeping them for a while. What ever you choose you will be happy. Have a big tank for it!

DO the research but i love black ones. I have one and its awesome. It looks beautiful if you have the right lighting. Plus you have bragging rights. Whats the point of keeping a fish that anyone at any time can walk in a LFS and see on sale for 15 bucks. I want stuff in my home collection that will impress friends and family. If you have the money to get a tank that's big enough to hold a arowana, than 200 bucks shouldn't be anything out of the normal.
