Ok so i am new to the fish world. I just purchased my first tank last week. I bought some fish at Walmart. I got 3 upside down cats that were suppose to be normal everyday upside down cats. After i put them in the tank i notice one of them was extremely aggressive towards the other fish the other two keep to themselves and dont really bother anyone. So i did some research and im pretty sure walmart sold me black asian upside down cats. They are all black with a round broad nose.

What should i do about these fish? Only one of them is agressive. Im assuming i will have to put them in another tank. They are in a 20 gallon tank now. I have to pick up a 100 + gallon tank this weekend so i can put them in it since i read they can get up to 11.8 inches. Should i get them out of the tank right away? What kind of tank mates could i put them with?

Are they really worth $50 a fish?

I think you got Mystus leucophasis. I'd return it to the LFS or get a 55g.

One of them ate through a school of neons and platy's untill I realized what was going on. Do they still market them as community fish? I've seen the full grown one's - you need something very large to house them. A hundred will keep them for a while. Various frozen foods will give them the nutrition they need - bloodworms, beefheart, etc.
I've been told that people keep them with larger tetra's, even cichlids. This might help too: http://www.aqualandpetsplus.com/Catfish, USD Gold Flake.htm

I've got one of them in my 180 gal. He's about 6-7", and are housed with 10 other synodontis around 5-6", three leporinus fasciatus 9-10", and a 16" leptobarbus hoevenii. I've never had any aggression problems with mine, and he hides all the time. I never see him.

But yes, I have heard that they can get pretty nasty...

Ya the two bigger ones hide most of the time but the little one is really nasty. He swims right out in the open and light and looks for other fish to chase and bite at. Most of the fish seem to fast for him. But he gives my large angel who is pretty slow a real hard time.

What should I do? Should only one be in the tank? Would all three get along in a bigger tank?

They aren't very big now. Most of the fish are bigger than them except some tiger barbs which are too fast. Can they do any real harm to the other fish?

I've got mine w/my Africans. He is an aniamal during feeding time, but fairly mellow the rest of the time. He is about 5-6 inches and gets moved around by 2 smaller Synos. He has taken down his share of fry and smaller julies., but I really like him. Feed them market shrimp and watch the bellies grow.
