Here.
Hello everyone,

I like the title states, everything in my tank is REALLY black... maybe too black. My Blk Aro only seems to move around in the dark, but during the day when the lights on - he basically vegges. I think he might be getting too use to the darkness. I have a 72" PC Light fixture which brightens up the tank, but still pretty damn dark. I'm contemplating removing the blk background on the tank.

Anyone here have the setup w/o problems? Any ideas?

Thanks!

i used to have black all, ended up removing the substrate and keeping the background black with the bottom bare.

How big is your arowana? They seem to be pretty shy far into their adult sizes. When he's bigger he'll look more like a silver arowana with a black trimmed tail anyhow. So if you're all murdered out in black, he'll look extremely shiny against it. I don't use black substrate, but I've always used black backgrounds and dark lightning on them. Fish don't have eyelids, so if you're just turning the lights on him when he's shy, that's why, it blinds them. I think it's better to go with lower light levels, they'll be more active, and switch to brighter lights when they're bigger if you like that look.

Just remember that lights are for humans, not for fish. (for the most part, haha)

black tank is fine, your aro just isnt use too the lights

He just hides behind the gap between the FX5 intake piping and aquarium glass.

one of my greens is like that - they are opposites when it comes to behavior.

try dimming the lights, this has worked for mine

mine used to cower in the corner...this was after it jumped out...it grow out of it yours should also...

My favorite color being black, I would think the tank would look awesome. especially since the aro would look shiny. But i guess its your opinion. as for the aro hiding, he may just be adjusting to the light. but good lcuk. got any pics ;)

i dont think it really bothers the aro what substrate color you use or what is your background color. add a power head to create more movement. maybe the aro will be more active. or dont feed it for a day and see if it gets more active.

I've been promising picture, but had my camera over at my girlfriends place. Finally remembered to bring it back this time. Will post pics in a separate thread tonight for sure!
