I am working on a 300 gallon built into the wall, I have seen a lot of posts about painting the backside , I wa wondering if anyone had ever painted a separate thin piece of acrylic and mounted it to the back of the tank.
With a tank built into the wall I am worried that cleaning (and feeding) will be more difficult if I can only see in from the top while I am in the utility room the tank is built into.

I guess downside would be water splash getting in between ? other ideas ?
anyone else have a tank built into the wall ?

Here is what Id do.

Get some of the roll down screen material, like a window shade, mount it above the tank and pull it down when you aren't back there, and while your back there pull it up so you can see.

another option woulb be to hang a shower rod with a black drape behind the tank, and same thing just open it up when you need to see back there. If you do this correctly it will look the same as having the back painted.

If you are keeping the backroom dark, you may find that a background is not needed. I would just go with black fabric and velco if you do find the a background is needed.

I recently purchased a new 350 gallon tank. I went to TAP Plastic a had a piece of 1/8" thick, aqua-colored acrylic cut to fit the back. I attached it to the back with a strip of clear plastic tap along the top and a couple of additional pieces along the sides. The appearance is excellent. Tape the entire length along the top to prevent water from becoming trapped between the two acrylic panels. I'll post a pic one of these days.

i see what yer sayin about not being able to clean it very well if you can only see it from above....
if it were me id use cloth and do it like a curtain behind the tank... that way if water splashes on the cloth it will dry or can be thrown in the wash... or you could even mount the cloth to a piece of plywood if you dont like the "hanging" cloth look...

Thanks, Do you recall what TAP charged you for the sheet ?
