Black Background

is it ok if i put a black background and black sand and black crystal on my tank for my bichirs?
some says it will help to improve the color of bichirs? it it true?

It darken up the base color and most upper jaw species have some green color on the body. Not sure about the black crystal though.
 
I 2 have plans for black sand, what i've heard about it tho is that it makes em very very dark so im not sure if i want 2 do it after learning this. Can someone fill us in weater its true or false ? Do they become ugly-dark or nice-dark ?

They do go darker but they look alot better than ones on a light sand as that seems to wash them out,have a look at my albums,there are quite a few pics in there of bichirs on the substrate in my avatar.

it wont improve the color, but it will bring the dark tone of their color up, so they will look darker, most of the bichirs I've bought from the lfs looked really pale, but after a while in my tank, they turned dark.
