Ok so I've been debating for awhile now if I should put a black background on my tanks. Does it really make the colors pop that much more??

What are you starting from? If you have a light blue background? Yes. If you have a white or beige background? Definitely! Do you already have a dark brown or dark blue background? Maybe not so much compared to those colors. Avoid white sand/substrate too if you can help it. Check out some of the pictures from the photo threads, you'll be able to see the difference.

I have brown and black backgrounds on my tanks, it helps a lot.

Black background and black stand = show tank. Always looks good.

I would have to say it helps very little. I have one tank with black, one with dark blue and one with nothing.
Mood of the fish makes the difference. Good food. Good water. Consistancy is key.
Black allows you to take a better picture but does not improve the fish.
