would It hurt a large mouth bass If I put It in a 55 gallon? could I stunt its growth without hurting the fish? would a small mouth bass be better?

Stunting it doesn't makes you a good fishkeeper. Stunting often comes with negative side-effects that may kill the fish. Both LMB and SMB gets larger so a 55gal won't be enough.

I just wanted to make sure because I never stunted the growth of a fish and I read somewhere that some fish could be stunted and I did not want to hurt the fish. Also I wanted to ask before I got one because I never really had a bass. I just started native fish keeping.

My advice to you is that you need be slow down and gain the experience with the natives you have right now before move next to the next species that you want to keep. My concerns is that you have some natives already and judging from your other posts that you have only two aquariums. Your bluegill and warmouth needs that 55gal and you don't have enough space for another native (black bass) in a 55gal.
