Hello all , Im new to the forum . Ive returned to the hobby after a 25 year absence. I have been battling blackbeard algae in a 20 gall tall. Ive read many comments on Siamese Algae Eaters as a commonly known fact that they are one of the few that will dine on it. After shutting down a airstone , I patiently watched my Chinese Algae Eater polish off one side and then the other of the air stone of all the Black Beard Algae. Probably just as well as a slime coat ! haha Just thought the CAE deserved at least one good attribute among all the bad press.

It sucks that they get a bad reputation because they attack other fish, they really are beautiful and deserve some love.

Agreed, they are territorial but I think most problems associated with them come from lack of proper diet and space

Are they actually aggressive? I've been considering getting one for my 20 long cause I also developed BBA (or staghorn, hard to tell). However, I have a ton of platys, guppies, neon tetras, honey gourami, snails, and RCS so I'm worried about the possible aggressive behavior.

Also, are the Siamese algae eater and Chinese algae eater different? Google keeps gives them the same common names (when I search up the CAE, I get the SAE), yet it gives them different scientific names.

I don't mean to hijack a post, and I apologize if I am. I was just searching for ways to battle BBA, and this thread (i do realize it is 2+ years old) is discussing the CAE/SAE, so I figured why not just ask a question about it.
