I know it this may seem weird, but I was wondering what the requirements for a black belt cichlid? I am considering one, but I'm not sure if they would behave well with my other fish. And how aggressive and how can you tell the difference between male and female?

BB are in my experiance very aggresive towards other BB but I had one that lived with convicts they do get over a foot though and might bully your Oscar if you were going to put it in the 75

Would they be able to live in my 55 gallon peacefully or would it dominate the tank and kill off the inhabitants. Are you sure they are just very aggressive towards each other?

black belts would require far more than a 55 gallon once they reach full grown size. adult male black belts can grow from 12-14" and can be very aggressive. in general, male cichlids will be most aggressive with other males of the same species or males of similar looking species. imo, oscars and black belts have a fairly similar appearance that might cause some problems if you wind up with 2 males. Imo, to keep a male black belt with another big cichlid I'd want no less than a 120 or 125. A single BB would be fine in a 75 gallon.

I had a 14"+ F0 blackbelt. My 240g tank seemed really small when he was in there. My small blackbelt (10") looked tiny right next to him. I had to get rid off him because its shear size.
