a few weeks ago i went to my local fish store to pick up some water conditioner when i noticed this little black blood parrot. he was the smallest of the group and the only black one. he was getting bullied around the tank so i had to rescue him.
i've heard of people dying fish i was wondering if he was dyed or just has not grown into his color yet. he is about 2inches long.

You might wanna ask someone in the hybrid forum about this......

Just go to the top of the MFK page where it says forums , click there, then check all the different forums till you come to the hybrid forum. Im not so good with computers so I cant really send you the link, just guide you there...

Blood Parrots start black from when they are fry. They lose the black as they get older.

They are all a blackish dark color when small. They peal to the orange color just like a red devil or midas. You don't normally see ones that haven't peeled because most of the time they have been fed hormones to color up quicker and sell better. It will turn orange in time.

yea we used to have 2 of them but 1 died of ich so now i just have one an he is the coolest fish in the tank!

i got one a few weeks ago with a horozontal black stripe and it has BLUE neon surrounding the stripe, and it has black vertical stripes its beautiful! but its already losing some of its color and turning more yellow/tan im wondering if its a convict hybrid. my other two havent quite lost their brown/black but they have gotten brighter orange bellies..

Could be a pigment mutation, I've seen it happen in blue diamond discus before. I'll try to find a pic.
