i went to a pet store at the mall and they had a new shipment of black convicts... so after careful observation i picked out the two that seemed to have paired off. after getting them home and into the tank after letting them sit, they have eaten already, but i am wondering how long would it take for the pair to pair back up? i mean they had eggs laid in the tank at the store. but now they seem to show a little more aggression towards each other. is this normal and would they eventually pair off?

Adding a third fish (target fish) will help coax them to work together. This is a fast way to build back the relationship. But as previously posted in time they will rebond. There convicts the, rabbits of the water.

what do you mean third fish? in the same tank they are with 2 oscars and a jack dempsey with a few dithers such as minnows and silver dollars.

i picked up the two that were protecting a single large rock in the lfs tank. and after doing some research. i have come to the conclusion that there is in fact a male and female.

do convicts usually build nests? mine are building a very large nest in one corner of my tank the i have reserved for them, but was just curious and it is getting pretty big.

Expect them all to die. Convicts are absolutely nasty when pairing. Not saying all of them will, but someone may be deceased. I've heard of Cons killing Jags twice their size.

i did the same thing bought two that looked like they were a pair now I have too many. I ha dfry in less than two weeks. Now their kids have kids

thats what i want, i just didn't expect them to do anything this soon or i would have my other 55 gallon setup for the fry. i only have one pair as of now, but i want at least two more pairs to help keep the population up and going.
