Is it safe to keep for then two black convicts? Or would it be a problem if two starting spawning? They would probably kill the third party right?

Depends.
Tank size?
Tank stocking?

Breeding convicts usually dont work in community settings. They get too aggressive. You can get 2 males OR 2 females to avoid breeding.

Really depends on tank size, I had mine breed in a 190 (almost 7 feet), all they did was chase the other male away when he came closer then 3 feet.
So yeah, in a smaller tank they might constanly chase him.

Ok Ill shoot for just a pair then. Its a thirtly gallon with one convict in it. Thats all that going to be in there is the two so I guess well see how it goes on thursday when the fish arrives.

Just 2 convicts in a 30 is very nice, lots of room for them.:)

lol thats good to hear. Now heres a ?. Does a female convict need to be old enough to show the red spot or does it show right away at birth? Im tyring to figure out if I have a male or female. theres no red spot but she doesnt have very dark spots and shes almost got a pink tint to her. Is she to young to sport the spot lol

Usually you can tell at around an inch, body length.

hmmm maybe when she relaxes more her colors will start to show. I remember I had a convict long ago that after a few days she just blossomed with colors.
