i just purchased a black convict who was beating up his tank mates and my oscar is jealous but why im posting is his tail is all tattered i will post pics soon can anybody help me learn more about this fish?

Hes an AWESOME convict at that size. His tail will heal with good water, food and stressless environment and he might end up whipping your oscars butt if hes mean.

And like the above posters have stated, clean water, stressless, warm temps, a touch of salt, and if that doesn't do it, then it won't ever heal.
However it doesn't look too bad imo, and it should heal just fine in time

yep he will, in fact he will even breed with other cichlids if he can't find a mate of his own species.
I don't know if this is a good idea, but i heard that trimming the tail fin a little would promote the healing process. I have read that this was done in a green terror. the story was that the a part of the tail fin was bitten of and won't grow back anymore so the keeper trimmed it and then it started growing again with much more brilliant colors.
